The Funniest Response to the “Asians in the Library” Debacle

22 Mar

Ever since the “Asians in the Library” scandal broke out on youtube, it elicited retaliation in the hundreds.  Shortly after uploading it, UCLA student Alexandra Wallace has taken down the racist, ignorant tirade from her channel but it hasn’t stopped other angry viewers (Asians and non-Asians alike) from re-uploading the video themselves and telling her exactly how they feel about her spew.  While a lot of the feedback are hateful and derisive, David So chose to break it down with a bit of sarcasm and humour.  The result: hands down, the best and snappiest comeback of the bunch.

David So, consider me subscribed!

Personally, her rant about people talking on the phone in the library would’ve been totally fine if she didn’t use racial terms and stereotypes.  I wasn’t really offended until she started going “Ching Chong….” and went on talking about the tsunami.  It’s completely uncalled for, not at all relevant to her rant, and such a low blow considering recent events.   Some may feel sorry for her since her mistake has cost her to drop out of UCLA, but I feel that she should have known that this would happen especially since she’s old enough to be held accountable for her words.

I think I wasn’t so much offended as I was more shocked at her stupidity. In my mind, I was thinking, “Oh, you poor stupid child.”

I can’t imagine what could’ve made her think it was O.K. to post that video. It’s one thing to complain to her friends about Asians, but to publicly announce it on Youtube (of all places)… She has effectively destroyed her political career.

If she didn’t drop out, I suspect UCLA would have asked her to leave in order to protect the University’s reputation.
