Personally, out of all the contenders for Best Animated Short, I found this one to be the most compelling (disregarding Wallace & Gromit since I haven’t seen that one yet). Visually, it’s interesting because of the back-and-forth between different styles of animation and tone that contrasts “real-life” and “storymode”. The narration and characterization is just captivating — Granny Grimm actually reminds me of my grandmother when she use to tell us stories. Granted, I actually use to beg her to tell us a particular witch story before sleeping at night — even though it freaked the heck out of me and got me all jumpy and paranoid — but this poor girl looks like she’s actually dreading “story time” with Granny, lol.
